Team Katch is delighted to be supporting SoShiro – the global collaborative initiative that brings different cultures to life through inspiring collections of furniture, accessories and art – with our unique brand of PR, social media and integrated communications services for the launch of its ‘Unlock‘ competition.
SoShiro is calling on all artists and artisans to unlock their talent and show it to the world during lockdown. The ‘Unlock’ online competition will give one lucky winner the opportunity to showcase his/her artwork at The Artistry, SoShiro’s gallery and storytelling space in central London, after movement restrictions have been lifted.
Unlocking Your Spirit
Through the launch of the ‘Unlock’ competition, SoShiro aims to support the creative community online. It is, therefore, inviting artists to upload an original artwork on the theme of ‘Unlock Your Spirit’. The entire work or concept of the work entered must have been developed and fully completed while in lockdown.
Whether it’s a photograph, video, painting, or even a sketch of what they plan to showcase, all participating artists are encouraged to embrace their impulsiveness during this period of lockdown, unlock their creative spirit, and submit their entries in whatever media format they prefer. In order to meet the entry criteria, the artwork should relate to the artist’s lockdown experience in some way.
The SoShiro team will select a shortlist of 20 standout pieces, and artists will be invited to the next stage. A panel of art-industry experts, including Shiro Muchiri and renowned Art Consultant/Curator Katherine Maginnis, will subsequently review each piece. The winning artist will then showcase his/her work at The Artistry and stay at the Georgian townhouse.
With so many people stuck at home at the moment, promoting positive mental health is more important than ever. Consequently, that’s exactly what the competition’s theme of ‘Unlock your Spirit’ aims to do. Extensive research has shown the positive effects creativity can have in reducing anxiety, depression and stress, as well as in helping people process trauma and crisis. During these challenging times, SoShiro wants to help people escape the negatives of the lockdown. In doing so, it is encouraging them to focus on artistic self-expression and, essentially, unlock their creative spirits. Accordingly, ‘Unlock’ is about celebrating creativity and giving the creative community something meaningful to look forward to after the lockdown.
Commenting on the launch of the creative initiative, Shiro Muchiri said, “With the ‘Unlock’ competition, we really want to unite the online creative community and provide a worthwhile platform for artists to showcase their unique talents to a much wider audience. The theme of ‘Unlock your Spirit’ is all about urging artists to embrace their impulsiveness during this lockdown period and express it creatively through their art.
To enter the ‘Unlock’ competition, post an image or video of your artwork on Instagram and tag @so.shiro. Additionally, you must include the hashtags #ArtistsSupportingArtists and #UnlockYourSpirit and submit your artwork by the 30th of June 2020. The panel of art-industry experts will then judge the top 20 successful entries. Find out more about the entry criteria on the SoShiro website.
